SITAKARI PRANAYAMA

DEFINITION:  “Sitakari” means which causes cold.  It is a variation of “sitali.”  This also induces body coolness when the body is tired and latent heat prevails.

STEPS:

  1. Sit in padmasana, sukhasana or siddhasana posture.
  2. Keep the back straight.
  3. Open the mouth first.
  4. Slowly fold the tongue and touch the middle part of the hard palate.
  5. Now, you are in ready state.
  6. Inhale the air through the mouth by the sides with an ‘ooss’ sound.
  7. Slowly exhale air through the nostrils.  This is one round.
  8. Practice this for 15 to 20 rounds.

BENEFITS:

  • Tongue roughness is gradually transformed de to air inhalation.
  • On an average, Kesari mudra benefits are got.
  • Calms the mind and cools the body.
  • Tongue gets massaged.
  • Beneficial in the case of low fever and biliousness.
  • All the benefits of sitali is got in this breathing exercise also.
